Typhoon Kalmaegi strikes Philippines and Vietnam and causes destruction and deaths

A typhoon is a tropical cyclone that develops between 180° and 100°E in the Northern Hemisphere and which produces sustained hurricane-force winds of at least 119 km/h. This region is referred to as the Northwestern Pacific Basin, accounting for almost one third of the world’s tropical cyclones.

Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Depth 10 km Strikes Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan on 31st August 2025

The eastern end of the Hindu Kush in the north merges with the Karakoram Range. Towards its southern end, it connects with the White Mountains near the Kabul River. It divides the valley of the Amu Darya (the ancient Oxus) to the north from the Indus River valley to the south. The range has numerous high snow-capped peaks, with the highest point being Tirich Mir or Terichmir at 7,708 metres (25,289 ft) in the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Unprecedented Snowfall Blankets Eastern Australia – 5th August 2025

The eastern states of Australia are the states adjoining the east continental coastline of Australia. These are the mainland states of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and the island state of Tasmania. The Australian Capital Territory and Jervis Bay Territory, while not states, are also included. On some occasions, the southern state of South Australia is also included in this grouping due to its economic ties with the eastern states.
