Large die off of #fish in a lake in Libya

Locally, the causes invoked are, jumbled, pollution, cold temperatures and the surrounding overcrowding. No more demonstrations.

Scientists from Asmaria Islamic University, located in the neighbouring town of Zliten, conducted tests on stranded fish on the shores of the Lake.

“There are a lot of fish dying in mass here in Wadi kaam Lake. After testing and initial inspection at the University, it appeared that these massive deaths are due to a kind of fungus, called a water fungus, that infects the fish. This type of mushroom multiplies especially at low temperatures, “says Ali okasha, Director of the Department of environmental sciences.

This specific mold, which we do not know for the moment what triggered it, attaches itself to the Gill of the fish, obstructing its breathing.

According to the scientist responsible for the research, the considerable number of dead fish could also stain the Lake.
