Storms Wreak Havoc On Hearne Area Neighborhood, Texas
Storms that moved through the area overnight Thursday hit especially hard in one neighborhood just south of Hearne.

Brenda Conley lives along Spring Oak Drive, just off Highway 6. She said she woke up around 3 a.m. to a noise she’ll never forget.

“It was probably the loudest noise I’ve ever heard. It was just an intense roaring,” said Conley.

Fearing the worst, Conley said she and her husband headed straight for the bathtub.

“I yelled at my husband, it’s a tornado, head for the tub!” said Conley.

After the chaos was over, Conley and her neighbors ventured outside to survey the damage. Trees had been snapped in half, roofs torn apart and patio furniture had been picked up and thrown as much as 100 yards away.

Experts said it wasn’t a tornado, but rather a severe wind event like a micro burst. Winds from a micro burst are short-lived and can reach speeds of around 90 miles per hour.

A few houses down from the Conley’s Annette Holder said the wind blew open one of the doors to her home. Debris and water rushed inside.

“I didn’t know what might happen,” said Holder. “That was the scary part.”

County crews came out to clear some of the debris, but Conley said it was her neighbors that really stepped up to help out.

“This happened about three this morning,” said Conley. “By about 3:30, we were calling each other. By about 4:30, we were all out here with flashlights. And by five this morning, the bulldozers were running, chain saws were running.”

Conley said it will take some time to get things back to normal, but they’re just thankful no one was hurt.
