Heavy Snow Closing Highways Around The Province, Causing 1000’s Of Power Outages In Prince George, British Columbia, Canada

If you are driving anywhere in the Interior this weekend, be warned, there is a severe storm moving across the province bringing heavy snowfall to some areas.

The snow is causing accidents on the roads.

Highway 16 is closed in both directions 7 km west of Moricetown, 36 km west of Smithers because of an accident. No detour is available at this time.

Highway 5 northbound is closed from the Great Bear Snowshed to Exit 217 because of an accident. No detour is available at this time.

There is heavy snowfall from Loon Lake Road to 20 km north of Lac La Hache on Highway 97. A travel advisory is in effect. Travellers are advised to use extreme caution.

In Prince George, the first major snow fall of the season is creating havoc for BC Hydro.

One school is closed and several power outages have left residents in the dark.

The largest affects more than 2,000 customers east of the Old Cariboo Highway.

Power outages are also affecting residents in Quesnel and Williams Lake.
