1,150 Poultry Die Suddenly In Bengkulu, Indonesia

A total of 1,150 birds in the village of Rawa Indah, District Ilir Talo, Seluma, Bengkulu, was found dead suddenly, last a few days.

This incident makes people worry that there is a bird flu outbreak. Acting Great Swamp Village Chief, Tohir Saputro, explained, the death of poultry that originated from cattle belonging Suwarno, a citizen. The same thing then happened to the other animals in the region.

“This condition makes people afraid of the bird flu outbreak, so I immediately coordinate with the health department,” said Tohir, Thursday (03/13/2014).

One member of the team Hall Vertiner Lampung Province, DVM Sulisnawati, visit the location. He said it was still awaiting the results of laboratory tests to ascertain whether the deaths of thousands of birds from exposure to bird flu virus or not.

“We can not be sure of now. Yet when viewed from its characteristics, is suspected of having bird flu virus,” said Sulisnawati.

In addition to monitoring in the village of Rawa Indah, officials from the health department also brought some samples of dead birds, among other organs, and the birds in a weak condition.

According to village officials, the death of thousands of birds in the village occurred since Wednesday (12/03/2014). Poultry carcasses discarded by their owners in a way buried, not burned.
