Massive Hailstorm Causes Farmer To End His Life In Maharashtra, India

Hail Formation Alert

A 49-year-old farmer, who suffered extensive crop damage due to hailstorm, on Wednesday committed suicide at his home in Ambil Wadgaon village here, police said.

The farmer, Udhav Nanabhau Tandle hung himself from a rod bolted into the ceiling this morning, they said.

According to police, Tandle was upset due to the damage caused to his standing crops by the hailstorm and untimely rains, which lashed Maharashtra earlier this month.

He was extremely worried over repayment of borrowed money, following which he took the extreme step, they said.

Earlier this week, two farmers — Bapu Ramchandra Pawar (62), and Atmaram Pawar — from Satana tehsil in Nashik district ended their lives for want of aid, after unseasonal weather struck their crops.
