Plane crash near Kerrville sends one to hospital, USA

Plane Crash Alert

A plane crash at Silver Wings Airport near Kerrville on Wednesday morning sent a passenger to the hospital with a fractured leg, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane is a Cessna O-1 Bird Dog, an old military single engine aircraft, and was being used for training during this flight — making several touch-and-go landings at Gillespie County Airport. The plane crashed short of the runway around 10 a.m.

There were only two people on the plane when it crashed: pilot Joe Zullo and instructor Bob Snowden, who was also serving as co-pilot. Snowden said the engine stopped as they were attempting to land.

One of them suffered a compound leg fracture and was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital; the other person sustained only minor injuries.
