Plane crashes upon landing South of Elkton, Maryland, USA

Plane Crash Alert

A plane was extensively damaged when it went down Wednesday south of Elkton, Maryland, after the pilot lost his avionics, radio and other instruments, Claremont Airport manager Mary Hall said.

The plane went down about 8:25 a.m. at the airport at Raintree Lane and Old Field Point Road. After losing instrumentation, the pilot decided to find the closest airport and land.

He came in on the wet runway, hit the emergency brakes, skidded off the left side of the runway and struck a guardrail, Hall said.

The pilot was flying out of Pennsylvania, south to the Carolinas in the four-seat Cessna 182. The pilot and two passengers were not injured, Hall said.

Josh Love, a commercial pilot who was at the airport, said “What the pilot was able to do under these circumstances and have everyone walk away is pretty impressive.”

The FAA will investigate the incident.
