Apart from the intense heat wave sweeping the city, weather officials have forecast dust storms on June 11 and 12. A mild cloud formation brought temperature down a bit on Monday but there is no chance of rain in the coming days. “Western disturbance from the Arabian sea had led to formation of clouds.
Monsoon is on its way but showers would not happen soon,” said Chandigarh meteorological director Surender Paul.
Maximum temperature dropped from 45 degrees on Sunday to 44 degrees on Monday, while the minimum was 27.5 degrees. Maximum and minimum temperature continued to be above normal by five and three degrees, respectively. Minimum temperature is expected to rise on Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday is likely to remain dry with maximum temperature around 44 degrees and the minimum around 28 degrees.
During a dust storm, the low-surface winds force sand to break into small particles that get lifted from the ground and mix with air to form a thick wall of sand. This could be followed by a drizzle of thunderstorm and leads to acute visibility issues.
