Typhoon Neoguri is expected to bring higher waves along Taiwan’s coastal areas overnight while chances of rain could increase across the island from Monday, the Central Weather Bureau said Sunday.
Strong gusts are possible in coastal areas of eastern, northern, and southwestern Taiwan, posing a threat to ships operating in those regions, forecasters warned.
The outer band of Neoguri, which is likely to come closest to Taiwan on Tuesday, could start to introduce showers to the north and east of the country on Monday, the bureau said.
Afternoon thunderstorms are expected in mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan as well, according to the bureau.
As of 2 p.m. Sunday, the storm was some 1,210 kilometers east-southeast of Taiwan’s southernmost tip of Eluanbi, moving in a west-northwesterly direction at a speed of 24 kilometers per hour, forecasters said.
