Franklin county is one of the areas that experiences forceful storms regularly.
The national weather service issued a thunderstorm alert for the county on Monday.
“We received numerous calls for tree limbs down…wires down. We did have one vehicle that was stuck under an underpass that had filled with some water,” said Greenfield Fire Department Acting Lieutenant William Taylor. “We did have a section of the area in town where primary wires came down. Western Mass will be working on that to get the power back to the residents.”
The strong winds were a scary sight. Especially for one family, who looked outside to see a fallen tree in front of their house.
“It was really scary. The clouds looked really weird. Next thing you know, we hear this loud bang and the lights go out,” said 15-year-old Shayla Demerd. “We looked out here and the tree was down.”
Residents reported similar experiences across town.
“There were a few trees down and some of the branches are down too. When I came to the store, we didn’t have power here either,” said business owner Muhammad Hamyun.
The storms have left Hamyun’ business without power a few times.
“It is frustrating. We have a lot of things in the store, you know ice cream and stuff, that we have to take care of,” said Hamyun.
The town is currently working on straightening out the wires and cleaning up the debris that’s cluttered the road ways.
