Heavy rain, hail and lightning on Tuesday hit some parts of central and northeastern Croatia, northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina and areas of Serbia which are still coping with the consequences of severe flooding in late May.
In Croatia, torrential rain struck Karlovac, 50 kilometres south of Zagreb, on Tuesday morning, flooding basements of several houses as well as farm-sheds and disrupting traffic due to landslides and huge amount of water on road-surfaces. Firefighters were engaged to remove fallen trees, branches and mud from roads throughout Tuesday.
Torrential downpours wreaked havoc across the areas of Slatina and Virovitica in the northeast of Croatia on Tuesday. Local rail traffic has been disrupted since the storm damaged the Cacinci-Slatina railroad.
Local rivers burst their banks and inundated roads, as well as yards and basements in several settlements in the town of Orahovica.
Heavy storms and lightning hit Bosnia and Herzegovina, too, with the northwestern city of Banja Luka being ravaged with torrential rain.
Rains also caused landslides in a wider area of the central city of Zenica, while the southern city of Mostar was hit by hail. The stormy weather caused power outages and traffic troubles in the country.
The inclement weather spread to western and eastern Serbia overnight, where torrential downpours flooded some houses and disrupted traffic on Wednesday morning.
