Plane crashes near Lakefront Airport, New Orleans, USA

A single-engine plane lost power and crashed into Lake Pontchartrain near Lakefront Airport Friday afternoon.

The pilot swam to shore safely, but the plane sank into the lake. The crash occurred near FBI headquarters close to the airport, New Orleans EMS said.

According to another pilot, the plane was a Piper Cherokee that was coming in for a landing when it lost power. The downed plane’s pilots had no injuries and refused EMS treatment.

The pilot’s identity was not immediately available and the cause of the accident was under investigation.
