According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, researchers from the University of Minnesota Extension took samples of water and fish at Lake Bavaria in Chaska.
The DNR says the water quality is fine, and all the fish that have died are black crappies.
All have damage around their gills and in their livers, which is a possible sign of bacteria, according to the DNR.
It’ll take a few more weeks to determine if a virus is responsible for killing off the fish.
The DNR says about 100,000 to 200,000 black crappies live in Lake Bavaria.
