Plane crashes and kills one in the Kootenays, Canada

A plane crashed at the Crawford Bay Airport tonight in the Kootenays, killing the one passenger on board and injuring the pilot.
 
The privately registered Cessna 172 was departing the small strip at the airport, when it crashed near a golf course, according to Bill Yearwood with the Transportation Safety Board.
 
The two people on the aircraft were the pilot and the passenger. The pilot suffered burns and was taken to hospital.
 
The RCMP and BC Coroner Services are at the scene. The Transportation Safety Board is supporting their investigation and is not sending in crews tonight.
 
The plane was registered in Alberta.
