
A man suspected of being infected with Ebola virus has been discovered in capital Male’, Maldives.
Haveeru has been informed that arrangements are being made to transfer the Nigerian man, suspected of being infected with Ebola virus, to Hulhumale’ Hospital, where National Health Protection Agency (HPA) has a quarantine facility set up for Ebola patients.
The Nigerian man, fearing that he may be infected with the deadly virus had gone to Maldivian Foreign Ministry for assistance; from where he was then transferred over to Health Ministry.
HPA has not yet commented on the matter, but has announced that they would hold a press conference to reveal information about the case, at 4:00 pm, Monday.
The deadly Ebola virus has been spreading like rapid fire throughout West Africa. World Health Organization (WHO) statistics reveal the virus to have taken the lives of over 3,000 people; and the organization warns that hundreds of thousands could be infected by end of the year, without quicker prevention efforts.
Ebola virus is transmitted through bodily fluids, and leads to hemorrhagic fever and with over 50 percent chance of death. There is no specific treatment regime and no licensed vaccine for the virus, as of yet.
