Plane crash kills all on board in Iran

Plane Crash Alert

AN Iranian police plane has crashed, killing all seven people aboard, including a top officer.

THE Turbo Commander craft crashed in the mountains outside of the southeastern provincial capital of Zahedan, with the wreckage found by searchers, official news agency IRNA reports.

The flight was carrying four passengers and three crew members.

Among those killed was General Mahmoud Sadeqi, a senior police officer in charge of investigations, IRNA said on Saturday.

It’s believed the plane took off from Tehran headed southeast to investigate an incident involving an attack on police.

Authorities offered no immediate explanation for the crash, though Iranian airlines, including those run by the state, are chronically strapped for cash, rely on aging planes and have a spotty maintenance record.
