Since the weekend, dead fish began to appear in Laguna and the Shark River in southern Santa Catarina. The Environmental Police, along with teachers Ichthyology, Fishing Engineering and Chemistry of the State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc) Laguna, went into the field to make material collected on the morning of Wednesday. A report, which should determine the cause of death, will be released by the end of this week.

We have come Shark River and made a patrol in the Lagoon Complex in San Antonio ponds, Mirim and Imarui. In both regions, we see these fish, which are popular menhaden, floating. They were dying in the search for oxygen – informs the cable Robson Vieira, the Environmental Police.

The team made collecting water, algae and some fish. Vieira announced that, on a preliminary analysis, it was ruled out that the deaths are associated with the coal mining leak Lauro Müller , held in late November.

It has nothing associated with that leak. After collection, the material was sent to the laboratory of Udesc here in Laguna. But in place, has been made a measurement of oxygen from water, which was much lower than normal, and can be the cause of mortality – Vieira complete.

The cable explains that what may have occurred, to be confirmed by laboratory report, is one Eutrophication due to the high temperatures and little wind in the region.

A while ago there was a lot of heat in our state, which reflected in the ponds. Since there was no wind, it was a lot of factors that affect this species, which is more sensitive. The dissolved oxygen was very low, so it was a chain reaction. But we will only have an official pronouncement when you leave the report – concludes.

When the report out by the end of this week, the municipal competent bodies will be communicated and will make an official announcement to inform the press and the public.

In addition to fish, a button was found dead in the Thick Sea Beach on Tuesday, also in Laguna, in the southern state. Professor Laguna Udesc Fisheries Engineering, Pedro Castilho, collected the body of the animal for analysis, but states that it is still not possible to determine the cause of death.

It is a dolphin species Tursiops truncatus, which is the same here in Laguna. But as he was in an advanced state of decomposition, we can not make some more detailed analysis of effective mortis causa – points.

The button, which had just over six months old, was a female. The collected material was sent for toxicological and genetic analysis in São Paulo and UFSC, Florianópolis, to determine whether the whale had some relationship to the animals that inhabit Laguna or belonged to some oceanic group.

Castilho believes there is no link between the death of the dolphin and fish deaths in the region.

At first there is no evidence that would prove any relationship. The appearance is that he was already in the water for a long time. He arrived at the beach already parched, was already only the skin and the carcass – says.
