Lebanon is expected to witness a heavy storm Friday with snow falling in low-altitude regions in the coming week, the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute said Thursday.
In a statement, the institute said heavy rain would begin Friday and temperatures were expected to drastically drop as a result of the storm called “Manu.”
“The weather will be stormy on Jan. 6, 7, 8 and snowfall could be seen in regions with altitudes of 800 meters above sea level,” the institute said.
Heavy rain and strong winds will continue until Jan. 7.
The institute issued a warning to fishermen and residents in makeshift shelters to take precautionary measures before the arrival of the storm. It also called on security agencies and municipalities to prepare for heavy snow fall.
Lebanon last year witnessed an unprecedented dry season, causing water shortages and serving a blow to northern regions that rely on tourism during the ski season. However, there is high hope this year that ski resorts will open their doors and make up for last year’s losses.
