Just before five in the evening a single engine, small aircraft was trying to land at the Pikeville/Pike County Regional Airport when it crashed.
Officials say the 50-year old pilot was coming from Vermont on his way to Arizona, when he planned to stop at the airport to refuel.
That is when the plane flipped over.
The plane was moved from the runway to a secure location, so investigators can find out the cause of the crash.
The pilot was the only person inside the plane.
“Upon landing, undetermined what happened , somehow he got off to the grass and that’s actually when he flipped upside down” says Public Safety Director in Pikeville, Paul Maynard.
Officials say no one was injured during the crash and the airport should be open tomorrow.
