While New England and New Jersey may have their sports rivalries, when it comes to fighting snow, they’re on the same side.
More than 25 pieces of NJDOT snow fighting equipment and 36 workers left Wednesday for snow bound Massachusetts to help fight an upcoming storm forecast to hit New England in the next several days, officials said.
State police officials said the state is returning the favor, through an interstate natural disaster mutual agreement which brought help form Massachusetts to New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
“New Jersey benefited greatly from assistance the State of Massachusetts sent during Superstorm Sandy,” said Col. Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. “We are proud to be able help our New England neighbors in their recovery from historic amounts of snow.”
The NJDOT snow fighting team will be deployed for seven days and sent 10 six-ton dump trucks equipped with plows and salt spreaders, six front end loaders and 10 smaller “Bobcat” front end loaders up north, officials said.
