Two west Texas farmers who found themselves dangerously close to a tornado “landspout” managed to get some photos before the swirling tube of dust blew itself out.

The entire episode lasted only a few minutes Wednesday evening in a field near Loraine, about 60 miles west of Abilene, according to KTXS-TV.

Stan Cole, an Iraq veteran, apparently had no second thoughts about shooting some video of the tornado 100 yards away, rather than ducking for cover.

“Perhaps from 10 years in Iraq and Afghanistan, my danger meter needs to be recalibrated,” Cole told the station.

Ricky Bailey, meanwhile, said the tornado snuck up on him from behind. It caught his attention when chunks of mud began to hit the rear of his tractor window. He turned around, saw the tornado tearing up some earth and snapped a picture.

Bailey said he plans to get a copy of the photo and hang it in his office.

“It’s pretty surprising that it came up right behind me,” he said of the tornado.
