Plane crash-lands at Whenuapai Airport, New Zealand

Plane Emergency Landing

A plane has crash landed at Whenuapai Airport in Auckland tonight after its landing gear would not come down.

Fire Service spokesman Colin Underdown said the two people on board the light plane evacuated themselves.

An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed the two were not transported to hospital.

Mr Underdown said the plane “belly flopped” onto the runway after having trouble with its landing gear.

The Piper Cherokee plane had come from Great Barrier Island and landed around 10.20pm.

Police were also at the scene.
