Authorities said more than 25 families lost their homes in a landslide that hit the Hamisi Constituency in Vihiga County. The disaster affected four villages, including Gimariani, Kidundu, Mukisangula and Muhembe. The locals are assessing losses as more than 40 acres of agricultural land in the area were swept away by the landslide. Gullies that were formed rendered roads impassable. This, along with the prevailing harsh weather, has hampered rescue efforts and locals are fearing that more landslides may occur because of the torrential rains that have pounded the area over the past couple of weeks.
