About 40 thousand chickens distributed in several farms in the municipalities of Muritiba and Varzedo , both in the metropolitan region of Salvador, died on Tuesday afternoon (7). According to the owners, the situation occurred after a power outage. The G1 has contacted the Company of Electricity of Bahia (Coelba), which was to stand.

In Muritiba, were around 30,000 dead chickens in six hours loss of energy.

The animals would be delivered for slaughter still this week. “There are six farms. The decline began around 13:30 and lasted until 19:20. It was an intense heat, and with the lack of cooling, they [birds] died. This week we would send them for slaughter. Because of this situation, loss was very large and is still being calculated, “says André da Rocha Pazos, vet the farms. The dead birds were taken to a landfill.

In Varzedo, more than 10 000 dead chickens. The situation occurred at a site located in rural Treacle, around 14h and resumed at 21.40, informs the owner. “As the temperature was very hot and we needed the fans and misting to keep live chickens, from the time there was a crash, they began to die. We are several owners who manage this farm. We spent a great inconvenience carrying all these chickens to bury them, “says edlene Mota.

Through a statement, the Bahia Poultry Association (ABA) reported that the death of chickens in Muritiba was due to cut energy that should be provided by Coelba. By the early morning of Wednesday (8) the counting of dead animals amounted to 30,000 in 16 sheds. But the number is expected to rise, as other houses were also affected and losses are still being counted, he says.

The association provides that the amount in damages could exceed US $ 400,000, with direct mortality and indirect with other birds that were affected by power outage. Still according to the ABA birds are housed in farms with fans and a sprinkler system which generates mist of water.

In December 2014 there were two power outages. The first, on the 18th, when 16,000 birds died and the second on 31 , with the loss of another 11 thousand.
