152 dead or dying Penguins found along the coast during past 2 months, ‘all malnourished’ in Tres Arroyos, Argentina

A large number of Magellanic penguins (Magellanic Penguin) were found dead between February and April 2015 on the coast of Tres Arroyos. The penguins were found dead or dying and they were juveniles few months of life, with a clear picture of malnutrition.
 
While were observed throughout the coast were finally counted and for methodological reasons only appeared dead between the mouth of Arroyo Claromecó and mouth Reta Arroyito, in the vicinity of the camp Ambrosius.
 
The transept studied, with an area of ​​13 km, was census on foot or from a vehicle fortnightly along the middle and upper beaches between February 15 and April 12, 2015, examining and marking each dead bird.
 
The total of dead penguins found during the two months was 152 copies, although the actual number of corpses had to be more to this beach segment, because during the study period occurred were temporary and incidence of scavengers such as gray foxes, often they dragged the carcasses of birds outside the area inspected. Therefore we talk of a minimum of 152 dead penguins, knowing that the actual number could be significantly higher.
