
Officials say two workers suffered burns and other injuries when a large diameter gas line exploded Thursday morning in Bellevue.
The incident happened around 9:30 am in the 14300 block of SE Eastgate Way.
A Bellevue Fire Department spokesman said two men were found at the scene badly burned and were rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The men were reported to be plumbers. One man, 36, had his clothing burned off. The other man, 46, also suffered serious injuries.
Fire officials said the men were soldering on a water line near a large diameter gas line that feeds into a commercial structure when it exploded.
The men reportedly did not know the gas line was in the immediate vicinity of where they were working.
The explosion and fire triggered a sprinkler system, which helped contain the blaze. the building was evacuated as crews worked to shut off the gas supply to the damaged line.
