Gas Explosion

A gas cylinder exploded in Government Middle School at Galandar, Pampore Friday afternoon when midday meals were being served to school children. The explosion did not cause any injuries, sources said.

Sources said that students from two primary schools of Patalbagh, Pampore had been shifted there as their own buildings were declared unsafe by the government last year in wake of devastating floods.

“Food for the midday meals was being cooked on three gas cylinders in a single room,” sources said. “Short while later, people heard a loud bang.”

Sources said that school authorities did not have the fire extinguisher and had to use the sand to put out the fire.

Soon after the incident, villagers rushed to the school building and rescued the terrified children, sources said.

Meanwhile, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Pampore has arrived at the spot to take the stock of situation.
