The blocked NH88 in Hamirpur
Landslides triggered by heavy rain have blocked the national highway (NH) 88 while threat looms large over the houses built near the landslide.
It was learnt that the families living on the hill side feared that their houses may be gutted if steps were not taken by the highway authorities at the earliest.
Notably, residents had been complaining of the poor work quality on the retaining wall, but their voices have fallen on deaf ears. However, it could take days to remove the debris from the highway.
Meanwhile, traffic had been diverted towards the city road. Rain has exposed the poor quality of construction work which was done after spending over Rs 28 crore and paying over Rs 26 crore as compensation to land owners for acquiring land for the construction of the road.
