Four people died in a fiery plane crash that occurred in a remote area of New York’s Adirondack Mountains on Friday night, authorities report.
FAA officials report that the cause of the crash is unknown and that no distress call was received before the crash. In fact, the last message heard from the pilot was his announcement that he was taking off at 5:50 p.m. from the Adirondack Regional Airport.
The plane went down about a half mile from the airport only minutes after take off and was, according to authorities, “completely destroyed.”
It seems the plane went nearly straight into the ground, coming “down in a fairly vertical position,” according to Franklin County Sheriff Kevin Mulverhill.
The pilot filed a flight plan noting that he was headed back to Rochester, New York. The dead have yet to be identified while authorities inform families.
