A flash flood on Hawaii’s Big Island left a group of tourists on an all-terrain vehicle tour stranded.
Visitor Jill Bolstridge from New York says she was swimming between two waterfalls in Waipio Valley on Monday when the waterfall behind her began gushing.
She says three people who were in the water were able to swim to safety. But a breakaway bridge they needed to cross to get back to the tour group and trail was washed away.
Bolstridge and a handful of tourists had to climb trees to stay away from the strong current that surged over a nearby steep waterfall.
Bolstridge says no one was injured. A rescue crew airlifted the visitors and two tour guides to safety.
All of the Hawaiian Islands are under a flash-flood watch through Tuesday night.
