
Some 45 sea lions appeared dead in recent weeks at a stretch of 58 kilometres from the beaches of Santa Rosa, in the Lambayeque region.
The responsible of the Peru Sea Institute (Imarpe) Lambayeque, Jaime de la Cruz, explained that the mammals died in the ocean series left in the fishermen’s nets. He said that individuals have different States of decomposition.
According to the researcher, the sea lions would come from land of Lobos island – located opposite Lambayeque – and they would have been caught when they were looking for food. Now, schools that serve as food, are very rare and have had to migrate to deeper cold waters since near the coast there are tropical currents by the El Niño phenomenon .
Of the cross concluded that marine mammals were killed by interaction with fishing. The Pack of wolves beached North of San Jose.
Tomorrow, a group of specialists of the Imarpe Lambayeque will travel about 50 kilometers south of San Jose to check if there was also a varazon of these animals in this area.
In ports and inlets of Lambayeque exists a great distress by a considerable decrease in fishing. In recent weeks, men’s only sea catch species such as cross, shark and raya which are typical of warm water.
