Major landslide knocks out water main leaving 44,000 without water in Malaysia

A landslide on Jalan Lebuh Putra, Kulai, Johor, has left 44,000 people without water for four days, according to a report on The Star Online.
 
“My whole family was forced to take showers at different mosques,” said housewife Khairunazrifah Ruslan, 49, adding that the family had been buying mineral water for cooking and drinking, since Wednesday.
 
“We have not been able to wash our clothes for the past four days,”
 
Cemara Bandar Putra zone Rukun Tetangga committee chairman Ismail Md Yani said that concessionaire SAJ Holdings was sending in water tankers but they could not keep up with demand.
 
“We urge the developer to speed up the repair works,” he said.
 
Bukit Permai assemblyman Ali Mazat Salleh, who visited the area, said he had discussed the matter with the developer, demanding an immediate solution.
 
“If the developer fails to do so, consumers have the right to seek compensation from the developer or take the company to court for causing the prolonged water disruption,” Ali said. – September 20, 2015.
