
Things had been quiet lately in the western Pacific until mid-day Sunday. Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued a tropical cyclone formation alert on a disturbance about 200 miles east of Guam. It appears as if it should strengthen as it passes through the Marianas islands, possibly becoming a tropical depression as it makes its way west. Where it heads once past the Marianas, it’s too soon to say.
