No one was hurt in a fire at Eastman Chemical Co. this morning.
Eastman spokesperson Kristin Parker said in an email to WJHL that the fire started during the demolition of idled equipment around 10 a.m. The fire has since been contained.
No one was reported hurt and Parker said “there has been no impact to the environment or the surrounding community as a result of this incident.” All employees in the area of the fire were evacuated as a precaution.
Kingsport firefighters were called to help extinguish the fire, which is Eastman’s normal process. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
The building where the fire occurred was described as an idled color developer building for Kodak. Those color developers are no longer in use.
