Power plant explosion leaves at least 55,000 people in the dark in Northern California, USA

Power Outages Alert

A power outage has left more than 55,000 people in Monterey, Seaside and Pacific Grove in the dark.

KION-TV reports that Santa Cruz Emergency Communications says an early Sunday morning explosion at a Moss Landing power plant might be the cause for the power outage across the Monterey Peninsula.

It says reports of an “explosion” came in at about 7 a.m. but it’s not clear on how severe the explosion was.

PG & E says it’s working to restore power and identify what caused the outage.
