The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says an airplane engine caught on fire Saturday afternoon after a mechanical failure.

It happened at a private airstrip on Courtney Plummer Road in the Town of Winneconne just before 3:15 p.m.

A 1975 Pathfinder P28 single engine plane landed and two people got out of the plane before it caught on fire.

Courtney Plummer Road was closed for about one hour as firefighters from the Town of Winneconne/Poygan Fire Department put out the fire.
