
Thousands of homes in different parts of the country were left without electricity on Saturday following a snow storm.
At 5:00 pm on Saturday, more than 30,000 homes were still without power with most power cuts experienced in Pirkanmaa region. Over 29,000 customers within the Elenia electricity network, half of them in Pirkanmaa, were without power at five o’clock. Major power cuts within Elenia were also felt in Häme and central parts of the country.
The snow storm also left homes within the Caruna network without electricity.
Snow fall and sleet affected the road condition in western parts of the country. The road conditions were also bad in Satakunta region, central Finland as well as in Ostrobothnia except in northern Ostrobothnia.
Repair work could last throughout the weekend, Elenia warned.
Bad road condition warning was issued in all parts of the country with the exception of Lapland, Uusimaa and southwest Finland.
Train service between Tampere and Jämsä was cut off due to the storm.
Fallen trees have cut off power lines in many parts of the country affecting rail tracks.
Buses were used to replace trains plying the route.
The national rail operator VR Group tweeted that the rail track could be fixed by 8:00 pm.
