The fire is burning in “steep and broken” terrain, he added.
 
The fire was just 10 percent contained as of late this morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
 
“We will catch fire”, one person in the vehicle says.
 
“We are a family of five and spending the holidays in Santa Barbara”, she said. The fire quickly spread, owing to winds that were as high as 50 miles per hour.
 
Officials said no homes were immediately being threatened, although evacuations were still in place in Solimar Beach and area campgrounds.
 
Crews expected to be on scene through Monday, or until the fire was fully under control.
 
That means firefighters will face a wildfire that will change directions, the Ventura County Fire Department said on its Facebook page.
 
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, one to a knee and one to an ankle, Kruschke said.

Earlier, a 15-mile stretch of Interstate 101 was reopened. Highway 150 was open but very congested with traffic, officials said.
 
Caltrans officials urged truck drivers to use Interstate 5 because of the windy conditions on the detour routes off Highway 101. About 10 a.m. Saturday, Union Pacific was able to resume service on the tracks.
 
The fire may have been started by a power line that went down on private property.
 
The highways feature scenic vistas of the ocean and mountains.
 
About 50 homes in the Solimar Beach community were placed under mandatory evacuation orders and about 30 nearby homes were placed under voluntary evacuation. Although most headed north toward Carpinteria, some neighbors stayed put.
 
Residents from as many as 100 homes that had evacuated from Solimar and Faria beaches were then allowed to return to their homes.
 
Officials had canceled the evacuations by Saturday evening.
