The family of gap year student seriously injured in a road accident in Thailand have made an appeal for blood donors to come forward and save her life.
Lucy Hill, 21, received emergency surgery for a broken pelvis when the moped she was travelling on was hit by a car on Saturday morning and she lost so much blood during surgery she urgently requires a transfusion.
But less than 1% of people in Thailand are of blood type A- and her family have launched an appeal on social media to find someone on holiday in Thailand who matches her blood type.
In a post on Facebook, her friend Lauren Hall who was with her on holiday, wrote: “Lucy suffered an accident being hit by a car whilst on a moped. She is now in intensive care and has had emergency surgery but is needing blood transfusions.
“Negative blood is rare in Thailand and sourcing the blood is difficult. If anyone is around and is **** A NEGATIVE**** blood type please contact myself on Facebook or call +61 484 346 507.
“Or head to Maharaja Nakorn Chiang Mai hospital and say it is to be donated to LUCY ANNE HILL AT RAJAVEJ HOSPITAL.
“I understand it is your holiday but this is my friend. It doesn’t take long and it will do a great thing. My friend wore a helmet and did nothing wrong.”
Ms Hill’s mother Alison has flown out to Thailand to be with her daughter and the family are understood to be receiving assistance from Thailand’s British Consulate.
Ms Hill studied PE at Leeds Beckett University and had just begun her gap year travelling through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Australia.
