1,000 cattle dead due to ‘high nitrate grasslands’ in Boyaca, Colombia

Sector dairy in the area of the Altiplano cundiboyacense was concerned because in the corridor of the year already are more than a thousand head of cattle that have died due to poisoning from ingesting nitrates in the meadows of this Colombian region.
 
Víctor Manuel Fajardo, President of the Federation of cattlemen Boyacá, Fabegan, told Radio Caracol: “a serious problem is occurring in the Department, and has to do with some lands turban, especially those that have been marshy and have a particular behaviours as they accumulate much nitrogen and are absorbed by these grasses that start to grow and falling two downpours for any reason and then follow the rains “, and these plants accumulate nitrates, which are consumed by cows and become nitrite causing the death of more than a thousand head of cattle”.
 
Finally unveiled the most affected regions have been the Valley of Ubaté, sector of Pantano de Vargas and the center of the Department.
