
At least 14000 animals died in recent days because of the intense cold, Frost and constant snow that fell in several municipalities in the province of Arequipa, in southern Peru.
Civil Defense authorities and the Ministry of Health confirmed on Monday (04), most of the animals died for being outdoors, not withstanding the intense cold, or developing respiratory diseases.
Even the llamas, symbol animal of the Andes, couldn’t resist the cold of up to -12° C and frost that was repeated for up to 10 consecutive days.
The Peruvian Government reported the animals were inspected by the Animal Defense and recommended that residents not consumed the meat, which was not respected in most instances. For the population were delivered more than 9000 units with blankets and clothes.
Due to the intense cold, schools interrupted classes in various cities of the province and neighboring Andean regions above 3000 meters of altitude.
