A large flock of mallard ducks at Brenderup farm in western Funen has been infected with low pathogenic avian influenza.
Although this type of bird flu is not dangerous to humans, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DFVA) has decided to put down 3,000 chicks to stop the virus from spreading and from developing into a highly pathogenic form that can be deadly also to humans.
The infection was discovered during a routine inspection carried out as part of Denmark’s prevention efforts against avian influenza.
