During Tuesday broke over our territory from the northeast cold, native arctic air. In higher altitudes and snowed and was significantly colder, have been overcome and records. He heightened feeling cold and strong north wind, and on Tatras was gale to hurricane.
On Tuesday (04/10) began over our territory a stream of cold, arctic air originating. However, cooling is started earlier. On Monday (03/10) passed through our territory further east a cold front ( analysis Synop 10/03/2016) and behind us started coming from the northwest cold air. Gradual cooling see eg. the course of the air temperature at Chopok in FIG. 1. On Monday, there was a maximum of 5.5 ° C, on Tuesday, has only 1.2 ° C and in the middle (5.10) after penetration of Arctic air according to operational data only -6.1 ° C. Significant cooling in a similar time, we also observed the Lomnicky Peak, where it cooled down to -12.6 ° C ( the course of air temperature ).
In the Wednesday, October 5, 2016 is already over the whole territory of Slovakia is cold, native arctic air . Significant cooling is through the analysis of air temperature INCA shown in the animation air temperature at 2 m above the ground. Significantly first it began to cool in the mountains, which is typical for sea Arctic air mass (since it is a significant drop in air temperature with increasing altitude), while the lower areas were most severely cool, of course, to the north. On the animation is also seen a marked difference in air temperature between Tuesday and Wednesday mainly in the mountains. Well visible is the impact of mountain barriers, especially the Low Tatras, for which there was a collapse of cloud, and as the Banska Bystrica region due to the sunshine warmed the most significant in Juhoslovenskej basin up to 14 ° C. On the rest of the territory, however, prevailed overcast with rain or a shower, while the southwest and occasionally fell Krupka. Deductions were from a height of about 800 m above sea snow, which is given the time of year is very low.
The inflow of cold air and prevailing overcast contributed to the fact that the maximum daily air temperature was on Wednesday (10/05) at several places in Slovakia extremely low, particularly in the north and east of the record (Fig. 2). The four selected stations was, according to operational data breaking the record low maximum daily air temperature (in the explanatory maps listed as min Tmax) by more than 3 ° C, and at some stations to break the record, the time series since 1951 or 1961 (in Zilina data are available only since 1981 and therefore has a record of less weight). From several stations choose Liptovský Hrádok where on Wednesday (5/10) achieved a maximum air temperature of 3.9 ° C and yet the current record of 1945 that was equal to 6.3 ° C. From Litpovský Hradek we have data since 1941, and thanks to this we can say that at this station, it was the coldest October 5 for the last 75 years . Coldest October 5 was for example, the Lomnicky Peak, where we have measurements from 1951.
