Landslide Alert
The Disaster Mitigation Agency say hopes are diminishing of finding alive any of the 11 men buried by a landslide at an illegal gold mine on the island of Sumatra in Jambi. A local said that days of torrential rain caused a landslide late Monday at Merangin, a hilly district of Jambi province and that the miners are buried at a 50 meters depth pit where it is almost impossible to be rescue because of the heavy rains.

The Disaster Mitigation Agency said rescuers, including police and soldiers, tried to reach the victims today. Rescuers are also trying to pump water and mud out of the pit according to D. Dalmato, official of the Agency.

The search and rescue operation will continue as soon as possible but without using heavy machinery. An investigation of this incident is underway while security measures inspections were announced in other mines.
