A tornado struck near the town of Melvin Iowa on Friday night.

Todd Heitkamp, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service of Sioux Falls, said the tornado touched down “just northwest of Melvin” between 8:45 and 9 p.m.

The extent of the damage done by the tornado will not be determined until the National Weather Service goes to inspect the area, Heitkamp said. He did note, however, that there was “quite a bit of property damage.”

Heitkamp said he did not know of any injuries resulting from the tornado.
