100+ cattle dead from cold in Matamoros, Mexico

The effects of frost recorded in Matamoros left a negative balance in the livestock sector, since until yesterday was the report of death of about 100 animals, including cattle, sheep and goats, although they might be more, as well as economic losses, as it was announced by José Luis Dávila Guerrero.
 
We was very bad, said the President of the Local livestock Association, “because we have been receiving multiple reports of partners, we are talking about at least 70 cattle and calves, but also some 20 ewe lambs and some goats, so it is immediately gave notice” “assurance funds that were to verify and program covers payments”.
 
He described the situation as critical since this carnage and are awaiting that more farmers submit their reports, so that the number of dead animals may increase was registered in just 3 days.
 
However much of the dead cattle was insured against such contingencies, Dávila Guerrero said that economic losses are substantial.
 
Losses were caused by low temperatures and living animals exposed to the outdoors by insufficient infrastructure in the cattle ranches for their protection.
 
In regards to the payment of the insurance coverages, Dávila Guerrero said that once affected producers, around 12, reported to the livestock Association and is to the assurance Fund is processed.
 
“Already were the verifiers to verify the Affectations, payments shall be made only in those cases in which the animals were aretados, which is mostly cattle and calves as well as ewe lambs,” he added.
 
In regards to the goats, he said that the deaths will not be covered since their owners are not obliged to give the arete requires Sagarpa and which is prerequisite for recourse to the funds of insurance protection.
