11 people killed, 25 trapped after explosion at iron mine in NE China

Eleven people were killed, nine injured, and 25 trapped underground after a vehicle exploded at an iron mine in China’s northeastern Liaoning province. The incident happened at around 16:10 local time (08:10 GMT) in the Benxi city district. A truck carrying explosives blew up at the entrance to the mine, where construction work was being carried out, according to a Central Television report. It said that contact had been established with some of the 25 people who remain in the mine.
