750,000 fish die in a fish farm in Kolbeinagjogv, Faroe Islands

The death rate is supposed to have occurred on the locality Kolbanagjógv on Faroe Islands 20. September.

The fish should have had an average weight of 500 grams, and was put out in the period June-august of this year.

-It has not been possible to confirm the cause of the incident, but the algae Phaeocystis pouchetii, Pseudo-nitzschia and Heterosigma was recorded in the sea by the locality Kolbanagjógv 20. September, and algae is suspected to have caused the dødelighetshendelsen, type company.

The company also confirms that the short time before and during the incident were sprayed fertilizer on a field 200 metres from the resort.

It has been run on the last breeding locality 30 years and there has never been a similar event, according to the company. Bakkafrost has also not observed similar situations at other localities in recent days.

In the course of the coming Monday will take out all of the Bakkafrost dead fish. The company also informs that the fish is insured.
