Hundreds of dead fish occupy the shores of the beaches of Araruama Lagoon, in the Rio Lakes Region, on Saturday morning (23). The animals began to appear on the afternoon of Friday (22) in the Southwest, Pitória and Centro beaches.
The fishermen believe that the problem was caused by water pollution, which causes the animals to run out of oxygen and seek the edges of the beaches to try to survive, as explained fisherman Jorgino dos Santos.
To learn the reason for the fish death, the City of São Pedro da Aldeia said that it requested the collection and analysis of water for the Prolagos concessionaire, responsible for sanitation and water supply in the region.
To the G1 , the Prolagos said that since the end of the night of Friday (22) is making all the necessary measures to ascertain the information.
For those who live in the region the feeling is sad to see the dead fish on the edges, a fact that happened ten years ago in the same place.
He says the fishermen are waiting for replies from the authorities to know what to do and if the fish are contaminated.
For Francisco da Rocha Guimarães Neto, president of the Association of Fishermen of the Beach of the Pit, the loss is enormous. “This situation greatly reduces the sale,” he commented.
The G1 contacted the State Environmental Institute (Inea) to know what measures will be taken and awaiting response.
